Do not hesitate to contact us for any requests or information.

The project “Maison Essuketeye” was born in September 2017 when Anne-Sophie, a Belgian in search of authenticity, fell in love with the country. Following her illness, it was her daughter Clemence who decided to continue the project of guest house. The typical Senegalese house is located on the beach, in a quiet area surrounded by nature. The goal is to integrate a social exchange between the tourists and the local people of Casamance. Anyone wishing to learn more about the Diola ethnic group and wishing to bring his smile is welcome! We will be happy to welcome you and introduce you to the region!

IMG_0905.JPG

The house is located facing the sea and has a large pool centered in the middle of the property. The terrace is very large and offers a wonderful view of the beach. The kitchen is open on the terrace as well as the living room. You can enjoy your coffee while watching the view. There is also a private access to the beach, a garden and a garage. The house has four bedrooms: two bungalows and two in the main house. Each has a private bathroom.

The local breakfast is not included in the price. However, if you would like to have a lunch or a diner prepared, it’s also possible (be careful, we are not a restaurant)! Tell us in advance so Marie-Louise can organise everything.

Clémence

Clémence is Anne-Sophie’s daughter and the owner of the place. Also in love with Casamance, its goal is to welcome people wishing to discover this region of Senegal and to make their stay as pleasant as possible. Her communication studies have allowed her to be always connected and available to visitors, even at a distance between Belgium and Senegal.

« If you wanna stay in Paradies, with Maracuja, Banana and Papaya growing in front of your door, with direct access to empty beaches via a shell-paved staircase, with Marie Luis taking care of your room, with Hyacinth preparing you an extraordinary breakfast, with a lot of space to do some Stretching, Dancing or Relaxing, than this is just the place! We loved to drive our bikes along the fisher men beach, hearing them singing while pushing out the boats, via the beach you are near but not next to the town, and most of all we loved the wave just in front of our door. »

« Lieu idyllique mais un peu excentré qui demande, pour se rendre au cap, de longer la plage ou de rentrer en taxi. Mais on oublie vite ces légers désagréments au vu de toutes les attentions et les conseils dont les hôtes ne sont pas avares. A consommer sans modération !! »

« This is such a fantastic place with the most spectacular view and location! Chill and read your book with a view over a secluded beach and watch the fisherman boats roll in during the morning and evening. Walk some long walks on the beaches and swim in the wonderful sea. Hyacinth, who runs the place, is your perfect local guide, who helped us play a round of golf at the Club Med Resort. The beaches of Cap Skirring are beautiful and this house is perfectly situated, comes highly recommended from one host to another. »

« Emplacement d’exception surplombant l’océan avec accès direct a la plage, végétation luxuriante, personnel au top (merci Hyacinthe). Nous avons passé un excellent séjour, nous recommandons vivement! »
— Caroline
« The view, accommodations, and hospitality are all five stars here. Hyacinthe, who ran the place when we stayed, went far out of his way to make sure we were comfortable, and even invited us to join him and his friends and family for a delicious, classic Senegalese lunch. The beds are comfortable, as if the crashing waves didn’t make it easy enough to fall asleep, and while there’s no AC, the breeze kept us more than cool enough. I will absolutely be back and will recommend this place to anybody visiting Cap. »

Senegal in a few words ...

Senegal is a West African country of 196,712 km2 bordered by the Atlantic Ocean to the west, Mauritania to the north, to the east by Mali and Guinea-Bissau in the South. The Gambia is in the middle of Senegal and penetrates more than 300 km, separating Casamance from the rest of the country. The climate is rather tropical in the south and dry in the north, with two seasons (the dry season and the rainy season). Dakar is the capital of Senegal since the independence of the country in 1960. The currency is the CFA Franc.

Across the country, several languages are spoken. The official language is French (spoken by 29% of Senegalese) but there are six national languages, including Wolof, which is the most spoken language in the country. The Serer, Peul, Mandingo, Soninke and Diola are mostly spoken in the South, in Casamance. Some people may speak Arabic, but most have studied Islamic theology in this case.

As for religion and beliefs, the majority is Muslim (95%). Islam is called "Sunni Islam" known for its tolerance and openness. The country's Christians represent only 4% of the population, while animism represents 1%. Animism, with its rites, its beliefs and Christianity are dominant in Casamance.

Casamance in a few words ...

Between contrasts, social diversity and cultures, Casamance is a magical place located in the South West of Senegal, between The Gambia and Guinea Bissau. Casamance has three administrative regions, namely Ziguinchor, Sedhiou and Kolda. It is an ideal place to meet the population, eat a yassa chicken in the village hut, among trees, along a river. These same rivers flanked by "bolongs", bordered by "mangroves" represent the first source of fishing in the region. The tropical climate is also warmer than elsewhere because the region is seaside with abundant water, very rich food varieties, pastures for animals and acres of jungle as far as the eye can see.
