Welcome to Essuketeye House! Guest house in an exceptional place: Casamance!
Do not hesitate to contact us for any requests or information.
The project “Maison Essuketeye” was born in September 2017 when Anne-Sophie, a Belgian in search of authenticity, fell in love with the country. Following her illness, it was her daughter Clemence who decided to continue the project of guest house. The typical Senegalese house is located on the beach, in a quiet area surrounded by nature. The goal is to integrate a social exchange between the tourists and the local people of Casamance. Anyone wishing to learn more about the Diola ethnic group and wishing to bring his smile is welcome! We will be happy to welcome you and introduce you to the region!
The house is located facing the sea and has a large pool centered in the middle of the property. The terrace is very large and offers a wonderful view of the beach. The kitchen is open on the terrace as well as the living room. You can enjoy your coffee while watching the view. There is also a private access to the beach, a garden and a garage. The house has four bedrooms: two bungalows and two in the main house. Each has a private bathroom.
The local breakfast is not included in the price. However, if you would like to have a lunch or a diner prepared, it’s also possible (be careful, we are not a restaurant)! Tell us in advance so Marie-Louise can organise everything.

Senegal in a few words ...
Senegal is a West African country of 196,712 km2 bordered by the Atlantic Ocean to the west, Mauritania to the north, to the east by Mali and Guinea-Bissau in the South. The Gambia is in the middle of Senegal and penetrates more than 300 km, separating Casamance from the rest of the country. The climate is rather tropical in the south and dry in the north, with two seasons (the dry season and the rainy season). Dakar is the capital of Senegal since the independence of the country in 1960. The currency is the CFA Franc.
Across the country, several languages are spoken. The official language is French (spoken by 29% of Senegalese) but there are six national languages, including Wolof, which is the most spoken language in the country. The Serer, Peul, Mandingo, Soninke and Diola are mostly spoken in the South, in Casamance. Some people may speak Arabic, but most have studied Islamic theology in this case.
As for religion and beliefs, the majority is Muslim (95%). Islam is called "Sunni Islam" known for its tolerance and openness. The country's Christians represent only 4% of the population, while animism represents 1%. Animism, with its rites, its beliefs and Christianity are dominant in Casamance.

These same rivers flanked by "bolongs", bordered by "mangroves" represent the first source of fishing in the region. The tropical climate is also warmer than elsewhere because the region is seaside with abundant water, very rich food varieties, pastures for animals and acres of jungle as far as the eye can see.
